The Camptown Theatre Workshop is a two week theatre-intensive session. All campers spend 3 hours per day in “Workshop,” which consists of classes, rehearsals & warm-ups. Campers have 2 hours per day of “elective time,” and individual choice part of the day. There is a full-camp chorus which meets every evening 7:00-8:00.
All classes and rehearsals are on-your-feet, hands-on activities; there is nothing classroom-like about our approach to education. We do a lot of physical work with the kids: physical improv, stick work, and other movement-based activities.
We work intensely with campers' comprehension of relatively small scenes from Shakespeare, so that they can wring the most meaning from the dense and complex text.
We work a lot with voice in the chorus and musical theater, and our voice teachers are experts in keeping young voices healthy while building their strength and versatility.
All campers perform at the end of the session:
Wednesday: Shakespeare Evening in the Little-Theater-in-the-round
Thursday: Chorus and Musical Theatre evening in the Ballibay Theater
Other evening programs include: Camper Cabaret, Monologue and Dialogue Night, DJ Dance, One Acts & Script-in-hand, &c...
